 The Suzuki Method

Shinichi Suzuki visited Germany when he was 18 to study violin. Suzuki encountered difficulty understanding and speaking the German language. Dr. Suzuki was surprised to hear 3 year olds speaking and understanding the German language with confidence and fluency. Although most people consider 3 year olds normal when speaking and understanding their "mother tongue", Dr. Suzuki was very taken by this concept.

Dr. Suzuki realized that children's potential must be developed by absorbing things from their environment. If small children could actually master the difficulties in language, couldn't these same children master and have ability for performing arts? Dr. Suzuki surmised that these abilities for performing arts should be developed a tender age also. Dr. Suzuki traveled back to Japan and applied his ideas to teaching children violin. Dr Suzuki's first presentation of student's was held in Tokyo in 1942 , he noticed that all children, regardless of their inherited traits, developed their abilities to play violin.

In 1947 , after World War II., Dr. Suzuki began teaching in Matsumoto, Japan and the Talent Education Institute was organized. Up to this time, and even today people have believed that only certain people with talent are able to play an instrument well. Talent Education is based on the assumption that humans are born with high potential for development.

Absolute Music

At Absolute Music, students are taught: 1) proper technique 2) beautiful tone production 3) to play by ear 4) to read music.  We have discovered that by training the body, the mind, and the ear first individually, and then consecutively, we can help our students to become fine musicians with self confidence and self discipline.  Research has documented that people who study an instrument early in life have notably different brain development than non-musicians.  Musicians have rated consistently higher on IQ scores, mathematics, language, reasoning skills and have better physical coordination than the general population. Teenagers involved in music have a SIGNIFICANTLY lower incidence of drug abuse than their non-musician peer group. Giving the gift of music to a child is truly one of the highest, most beneficial gifts that one receives in a lifetime.  Students at Absolute Music participate in private lessons, group lessons, recitals and ensemble classes.  And of course, music is rewarding for adult students, as well!
